LANDMARK COLONY
Location: STATEN ISLAND, NY
Client: NFC ASSOCIATES, NYC ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Nancy Owens Studio has been involved with regenerating one of New York City's forgotten landmarks, a 45-acre former poor farm in Staten Island. The site and its eleven buildings, which has stood vacant since 1975, will now be transformed into a 55+ housing development. The landscape provides the connection between the newly designed buildings and the historically preserved ruins. Native plantings and interpretive pathways weave among sit features, recalling the storied history of cultivation and institutionalized care that took place here.
